My Cup Overflows

I really do have almost more than I can handle at the moment.  Our business has taken off and my husband is the one and only...He is everything..This is a very good thing but we are having to adjust...Him to working longer hours and me to being on my own a lot of the time.  We have about 4 full time jobs between the two of us....so, some things are getting laid to the side.  Blogging and my computer time is one of those things that I don't have much time for lately.... I surely do miss all of you and hope to have time to visit around soon..

I hope you enjoyed these flower pictures.  I am a huge fan of daylilies as you can see...  My family has been in the daylily growing business for generations..  I just grow for fun and beauty.....

My Gardening Life

It seems like every year I am surprised  by how busy my life becomes when it is gardening season...planting the vegetable garden, deadheading all of the daylilies, and adding landscaping anywhere I can find room..  moving plants that are not happy and dividing those that are to make even more happy plants...watching for volunteer seedlings and hoping I like where they decide to grow....and always on the lookout for native trees and shrubs so I can use them in the landscape...these are just a few of the jobs I have in the spring and early summer......and I try to carry my camera with me so I can document the yard and the progress....so here are a few from this time of year.....it really is beautiful out there...flowers still amaze me...the colors, the fragrances ..the design...all of it....just absolutely amazing.

and one of my little garden friends..when I started taking these pictures, he turned and looked at me like he knew what I was doing.....he lives near our deck and sees us everyday.....at least I don't catch lizards anymore like when I was younger...LOL  I just photograph them..so he is safe....

A really, really busy season around here...before I know it the hot summer will be here and it won't be so pleasant to be in the garden.....so until then........

I am in the garden.......and not writing blogs very often.......

Julia Child Rose

Oh, look how sweet..and how much they love me......

truth...I am inside the garden fence and I am eating yogurt and they want some....  they will stand there and wait and wait and wait for me to come out so they can  get a lick of an empty bowl...silly dogs.....but they love food...they are ruled by their tummies...

maybe this blog is inadvertently about food.....a famous chef....and some flowers and the color yellow...so random this morning, but I have been sick with a cold so this is what you get today...

It took me a while to find this rose named Julia Child because I wanted it the same year it came out...but..I was persistent and I found it...very pretty and fragrant and mannerly..a nice little shrub rose..right in the front of my huge flower bed..once it starts blooming in the spring, there are blooms until frost...yes, a good plant..Julia did good when she chose this rose for her namesake.....

My husband likes yellow flowers and I like white flowers..both of these colors look really good in a big landscape like ours..they show up from a distance.....

DIVISION

Well, well........division.....it can be a beautiful word in the right context.....

but

it can be a devastating word when it gets in where it does not belong.....

Now that it is gardening season, I am thinking about all of the plants, mainly perennials that need dividing..   When I do this, it is almost like getting plants for free..and one plant can spread into many plants through dividing...one daylily scape can multiply into a whole clump and then division is the natural and necessary step to take..then you have many scapes to plant and then they become clumps and the cycle goes on and on..you get the picture....
This is a good and healthy way to let the word 'division' into your life..when it actually causes multiplication from division.......

Then there is another way that it is a not so good thing to let into your life....as in divorce....when that division happens, it divides what is supposed to stay together always.....it does NOT cause a multiplication of anything good...it causes death....on many levels.....I never thought that I would get to experience divorce and much less that I would gain a little authority to talk about such unmentionable things like divorce...but, lo and behold....I did not choose my life, I am living it (heard that line in a movie last night and liked it)....and my life included divorce...it also includes a second, successful, forever marriage...so beauty can come out of ashes......

I have just been thinking about this word....DIVISION.....

Let's leave it in the garden and get it out of our homes!!!!!!!!

and as a nod to my brilliant children and grandsons....yes, division is good in the math department..  grin, wink....
they are all math prodigies......but I will stick to division in the garden....

What God has joined together, let no man tear apart.....that's a good word....the key is God joining it together...

SO...daylilies and other perennials.....DIVIDE away....

Marriage and healthy relationships.....DIVIDING is detrimental to your health......

Simple Food

In case there is someone out there that doesn't know about cucumber sandwiches, I thought I would give you a little help so you can make one and not miss out on one of the most wonderful joys of having a home garden....how is that for a run on sentence??  LOL  I have been eating seasonal and local all of my life...way before it was a hip and cool thing to do...one of the main vegetables I wait all winter for are cucumbers from the garden.  there is just nothing like the taste of a cucumber picked and eaten within minutes...especially if it is on a cucumber sandwich.  I grew up in a little south Georgia town during the 50's and 60's..one of the memories I have is that Mama had bridge club EVERY Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m...When it was her time to host it, no big deal for Miss Faye..she had us children to make the party food for the ladies...we always made cucumber sandwiches for them....it is just a southern way of life to eat them in the summer.....so I am still eating them and loving them and relishing the freshness of homegrown produce..when we cleaned out Mama's refrigerator during the funeral days, there was her cucumber mixture in there....just waiting for her next sandwich...

So, here is the way to make a very simple and good lunch this summer....

first you pick the cucumber

here are the ingredients and YES Dukes is the best to use..

make sure there is enough to taste!

then slice and sprinkle with garlic salt, liberally

then, it MUST be cut on the diagonal to taste right..LOL

I hope you enjoyed this little visit to South Georgia in the summertime...it was a good time growing up down there...lots of wonderful memories..

My Mama played the piano a lot and she loved show tunes so I heard these songs a lot while growing up and I have always loved them....I even have a record player and way too many records to ever listen to them all....

 and just one more thing.....my daylily Ski Chalet bloomed this morning for the very first time...I have always wanted this daylily and Daddy gave it to me in January of this year.....thank you Daddy...it is beautiful
