St Patty's Shamrocks...the real truth....as I see it..

There is nothing like the color green to bring me out of hibernation.. I can't believe I haven't done a tablescape since before Christmas....well, I finally got my tablescaping on.....so, here we go....

There is so much to choose from in our home when the color green is in play..the whole house is decorated around this color and it is my foundation color for most of our dishes...

I decided to go simple.....

ONE shamrock (aka 4-H cloverleaf) and ONE cabbage (St Patrick's Day food of choice).....

Green Ballerina Pottery bowls for potato soup.  The cabbage leaf plates are perfect for holding corned beef and cabbage with cornbread..

The silverplate is a recently acquired huge set from ebay.  The pattern is White Orchid and was my Grandmother Lewis's pattern..so it's both beautiful and familiar to me...

The cabbage tureen and underplate are someone's very good ceramic art from 1972..

small green leather roses on an Irish Linen tablecloth.....

                                                                  the maker of the plates

Vintage green glassware compliments the setting.  We use them everyday and I don't know the maker...

My favorite thing about St Patrick's Day is the food..and then the greenness of it....Everybody wears and decorates with my favorite color..

I can't wait to see how all of you celebrate this day. and what it means to you..

As a side note, I tried my best to buy a little shamrock plant for the table....  I could NOT bring myself to do it..LOL  and here is the reason..  In my part of the country, oxalis is an obnoxious weed that I have heard my grandmother and parents talk about all of my life..how to get RID of it!!!   and now it is a little plant that is popular and is sold at this time of the year under the name of ..you guessed it...Shamrocks...LOL   So, I could not in good conscience pay money for a weed that we have been trying to get rid of for years....But, I tried..I really did...stood in front of them a looooong time at Trader Joe's..then walked away and decided this stained glass one was more my style....
Guess what I found growing in the weeds yesterday while I was weeding!!  yep, oxalis (shamrock)..one person's trash is another person's treasure...thought you  all might need a laugh..and how we interpret things differently.....

Happy St. Patricks Day

Thank you for stopping by..I am excited to be back in the saddle again...

Love, Mona

December Dining

Green is the color I am focusing on in our family room...and on the tree...When I first started thinking about that, I thought..it will be easy peasy because the main color in our house is green so I am sure I have lots of green decorations..until I started going through the boxes and boxes of decorations...LOL..  I collect vintage ornaments so I have an over abundance of pink, aqua, and blue.....none of which I am using this year...

I am making progress and found enough green glass balls to do the tree....well, at least one side of it.hahahaha  so thankful for editing and cropping of photography....anyway.....come sit at our table for a minute.....

Everybody knows Friendly Village by Johnson Brothers..I found a partial set while thriftstore shopping a few years ago...That is all I need..enough to set a table for 2..  It is very pretty and I like the green....

I paired it with Lenox Solitaire..another GW find..even the monogrammed plate that I will use for bread...and 'G' is our initial..How cool is that?

On top of Lenox green chargers...from our wonderful Lenox outlet that is only 30 minutes from our house..

My new pewter salt and pepper..  I have been looking for these and you guessed it... .99 each at GW....

Still working on bokeh..The lighting is not very good today..foggy and cloudy..I like to shoot in the morning light...maybe next week...

I like the way this stack of dishes came together..and they compliment the Christmas tree.....Now if I could only get the rest of this house decorated and the empty containers put back into the barn..I would be a happy camper...

I hope your decorating is coming along nicely..How far along are you?    I like to take some breaks all along.....At this rate, I will be done by Christmas Eve...LOL

Love, Mona

Green Is My Color

I have been thinking about the color green all morning while I picked my garden..  It is my favorite color and I think it is beautiful...

But, you know when it is NOT beautiful?  when it is associated with 'green with envy'...or with jealousy...that is the down side of the color green.

And why?? am I thinking about all of that this morning??  I am going to tell you in just a short(I hope) post...so if you don't have time for any of this, just come back tomorrow when I will have a lovely tablescape to look at and nothing too philosophical...but if you have time, hang on....it's good...

This morning I was having a conversation with 3 friends that I have known most of my life..we talk frequently and I love them dearly..it was just some chit chat..nothing too deep....BUT...I mentioned how I met my husband and the replies I got were astounding to me....they were GENUINELY happy for me...and for the life I now have..and there was not an ounce of JEALOUSY anywhere in their words to me....it felt clean..and joyful..and uplifting..and filled with genuine and real love for me...WOW!!!  just WOW!!

I tell you it got me thinking about how wicked and awful jealousy and envy are.  There is just no room for jealousy in a Christian's life....NONE!   There is no reason to justify feeling it or try to blame another for it.  It is just plain out wrong....and we need to just stop being jealous...and rejoice with others when something good happens to them..I suppose that the only way out of the prison of jealousy is to just make a decision to rejoice over that person rather than be jealous of them.....

I had someone tell me recently that they had jealousy issues like it was a badge of honor they wear..There did not seem to be the desire to get rid of the jealousy..to make a different decision....

It was the wholesomeness of these unjealous friends that caused me to realize just how absolutely nasty it is to be around someone who is jealous and envious.

I read this verse this morning..

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers..

I propose to you that jealousy comes from our souls and if we allow it to stay there, maybe it  effects our overall health and wellbeing...just some food for thought......

Put down your jealousy and envy...don't try to justify it,,,just plain out and simply make a decision to rejoice with good things for others..and see what happens in your life if you do this from your heart...
I know this is where I am today.  I want people that I encounter to walk away from me saying, I am glad I came in contact with her today..She lifted me up...How about you?  don't be a person that teaches by your actions what not to do....

I think that is all I need to write....thank you for staying til the end...

Love, Mona

A Lovely Green Table

It makes me happy to set a table with green dishes.  After all, it is my favorite color and almost all of my dishes have some green in them....

Sometimes, it is hard to decide which ones I will use for St Patrick's Day...This year I chose one with ivy because I love the shade of green for late winter...

I hope you enjoy my table.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

I am joining these parties.......Come visit...
