Spring Has Sprung

It's a new day around here....it really IS spring....the season has really changed....  the calendar says so..

As I sit here writing, it is still gloomy with short spurts of sunshine and temp in the 40's...BUT as of midnight tonight, it is the first day of spring..and I am sticking to that!!!!!!!!!!

I fixed this breakfast tray or lunch tray...and had it ready to take into the garden as soon as the sun came out.....   well......I waited and waited... and it came out for about 10 minutes..but I was ready. hahaha
I am a natural light photographer and depend on the sunlight a lot...let's see what I was able to get...

Instead of picking the flowers and putting them in the vase, I just plopped the tray right down in the flowers..
I usually eat with the tray on my lap and enjoy the flowers..

This old wicker tray is perfect for garden lunches and breakfasts..

The pattern is Harrison's Rose by Haviland.  this was my Grandmother's china and I cherish it..

I covered the tray with  a beautiful embroidered , cutwork cloth that came from my other grandmother..

The daylilies are looking so healthy..

I always love flowers inside a cup..

I am sure this 5 fingered vase will get a lot of use later in the season...

Or I could move over to the area of the garden that has this huge clump of snowdrops...
The spring season is a most welcome time of year for us...  I simply could NOT wait another week before I took the tablescaping outside...

My goal is to simplify these settings....Most of our meals are just the two of us anyway and I intend to set a lot of these showing just how pretty it can be done when it is just a small table for two...  After all, my husband is my most important guest..the one I love the best...and he should be shown how much I love and appreciate him by getting my best tablescapes... There are plenty of opportunities to plan big get togethers...but, this is everyday life around here.

Second marriages are beautiful

 Seasons change, life moves forward.  A grandson turned 11 yesterday, I have filled my garden beds with greens this week, and the inevitable..football season starts today.  Even though I have lived in a huge football town for decades, I am not a football fan.  My husband is.  I  am an introvert, he is an extrovert.  Give me a book, a garden, a cozy home.  Give him football season tickets, races on TV, people to talk to.  We make it work and it is a good thing. We learned a whole lot about what not to do because of our failed marriages..  This one is a second marriage for both of us..

While he got ready to tailgate and spend the day at the game, I took my camera outside this morning.  I love him so very much and we have learned to let each other be who they are meant to be.  no control here, just respect and honor.  I sat down to just post a few pictures and all of this came out.  lol  such is life..

Here's to everything working out for our good..finding the silver lining.  and everything else good.

April is Finally Here and I am Late

Here are some pictures from around our place this month.  I am so busy in the yard and now I have aggravated my sciatic nerve with lifting things that are too heavy.  oh, woe is me! I am taking it easy for a few days.... But, I have time to write this blog.  So there is a silver lining....hahaha.

Hedges and Crepe Myrtles

As some of you may remember, last year we had a great hedge massacre when our neighbor mistakenly thought our hedge was on his property and chopped it down!!!   I was very upset, to say the least.. LOL


BUT.......  the story has a happy ending.  These pictures were just taken and as you can see, the hedge has made a most wonderful comeback...It is blooming happily and has grown thicker since the cutdown..  That, my friend is the value of a very old landscape.  The roots of this hedge are so old and they were able to recover easily...  I am hoping that I can recover so easily when a setback comes in my life...  This emphasizes the need to have deep roots in my life...  So when someone cuts me down and thinks they have killed me..well, just you watch and see....these roots are deep and this girl can comeback in very unexpecting ways...

And then, we have our crepe myrtles...Some of them are ancient...some of them are just a few years old..
All of them are beautiful...

I will have to tell you about all of our redbirds next time..We have a family of them and have watched them grow up..One of them sits on the bird feeder and eats and eats..he is there right now as I type this blog.. I can see 6 redbirds at our feeders eating lunch..  LOL  I surely look forward to their visits everyday..
