AFTER Labor Day

Where has the summer gone?  How can it possibly be after Labor Day..  all of my grandchilden are in school.  even the baby of the whole family.  He started preschool today.  And my first grandbaby turned 12 this weekend...  time is indeed fleeting..

But..I have flowers in my garden.  mainly dahlias this time of year and a decent crop of figs and okra.
I am still waiting on the Red Roselle Hibiscus to bloom after planting the seeds way back at the end of February..patience is a virtue, right?

 These beautiful flowers are so romantic to me.  They always make me want to capture their elegance with my camera.  I take hundreds of pictures of them in the fall. bringing the artist in me out to play..

I have so many pictures to share and so little time to compile a blog post.  I hope y'all enjoy these.
If you have ever thought about growing dahlias, DO IT!  They are all the rage now but I started experimenting with them before this wave of popularity started and I love them...so dependable and long lasting.  I pick them all the time so our house has arrangements all around until frost in November.  I can remember the dahlias my Grandmother grew and it seems like if I close my eyes, I am standing right by her side in the path that surrounded her bed of dahlias .  That memory is what nudged me to buy my first 2 dahlia tubers about 10 years ago at Jesse Israel and sons garden center at the  Asheville farmer's market.  I had no idea about them but I quickly learned.  Those 2 tubers are still producing flowers.  probably more than a hundred by now.. One of them I love, one I don't.  then I bought a cafe au lait tuber..my oh my..... If I was just starting out I would be a flower farmer for sure. I love seeing the young women and men grow all of these flowers and make a living doing it..  Yay for the flower farmer movement...

Autumn at Winterpast

Let's go visiting around my garden this morning...few words, many pictures....ENJOY!

This is a full picture of the Confederate Rose.  as you can see, it gets quite large..I am fortunate to have such a big yard so size doesn't really limit what I put in my garden...

The sasanquas are really putting on a show this time of year...I love, love, love this old shrub...we have lots of them throughout the landscape and I plan to plant even more...

This is my view every morning when I go outside..I will NEVER tire of looking at this yard..I am so absolutely and completely thankful to God for trusting us with this piece of land...

So glad you stopped by this morning...Life is surely getting full and busy around here..and not to mention we are heading into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season..so many plans living in my head right now.  LOL

I just hope I can make the time to blog about a lot of them..

From Garden to Table

Y'all thought I was talking about vegetables, didn't you?  Well, not around here...mostly talking about flowers lately.

 

My inspiration for this table came from my garden..These beautiful mums that are beginning to bloom.  It must be an early variety since it is the only one blooming right now and I have lots and lots of chrysanthemums in our yard.

I love this color of teal for the fall...it goes so nicely with all the other autumnal hues....I bought these dinner plates just for the color.  They were a Salvation Army find a few weeks ago..and the flowered dishes are some that we use everyday.  we have many pieces in several sizes....

I like to use candles for the colors they can bring to a table..I am always on the lookout for nice ones when shopping at thrift stores...but make sure you check out the smell...some are B.A.D!!!  LOL

Unscented are my favorite for the table but I can't always find the right color in unscented...I have a whole cabinet of pillar candles that I have picked up for a song...   and ALWAYS get the small white pillars.......

Terra Cotta linen napkins with clear acrylic napkin rings..  I thought they went well with the glasses...

Some marbles in a glass brick that came from my Grandmother Lewis.. she collected everything to use for flower arranging and was so imaginative with how she used it....

I love the simplicity of this table and how the light catches different surfaces.  We will enjoy this arrangement until it fades...and then maybe another color of mums will be blooming...

The little majolica footed bowl has no markings on it and I don't know if it is old or not..but I LOVE it and use it all the time..

This is a good weeknight tablescape and anybody can do something like this with what you have at home.  just get some flowers and go from there..  I used mixed silverplate silverware.....I know, but I like the way that sounds.  grin...
