The REAL October

I am reposting one of my favorite blogs about October and the golden light..  I hope you enjoy it...

I have put off expressing my opinion about the month of October but I just cannot stand it any longer.  LOL  and if you are easily offended, then just stop right now and come back next time when I will be less controversial....

I LOVE, LOVE the month of October...it is a beautiful month..the changing of seasons..the turning of the leaves..the beginnings of all things cozy in our homes..usually the first fire in the fireplace..
.and it is the month when I met my true love....

The earth takes on a kind of golden color all around...

Everywhere I look the last few weeks, the world has turned to that horrid shade of orange and black...and filled up everything with scary things and dead things....while all around us for 30 days out of this month, we have so many living and beautiful things to celebrate....the holiday that is ONE day out of this month has overtaken all of blogland.....ok, I know..that is MY opinion...but this is MY blog and I feel like my opinion on this month's holiday has been squshed and pushed aside by all of the hoopla over this holiday that I neither like nor do I celebrate in ANY way at all...

I decided that the best way for me to keep writing a blog and setting a table during this month of October was to set one filled with GOLDEN light and flowers...and pretty pictures...not a single solitary scary or black and dead thing to be seen here...not trying to stir up controversy but simply expressing my opinion while staying true to my convictions.....

These goblets were all taped together in a bundle and dirty, but as you can see they are quite a find..     beautiful, etched with leaves...and golden.  I only bought 5 out of the 13 that were on the shelves at GW...love them..

I found 4 place settings of these amber dishes this week..they are arcoroc France...

There are a lot of things on this table that I should have moved..LOL just don't look at them..This table is real, raw life around here.  I had thought I would just skip the rest of October in blogland..

and.....THEN!!!!

the sunlight hit this table just right this morning and I got my camera and here we are...

My husband said to me at lunch today, you surely do seem to be finding a lot of this amber, golden color lately....I smiled....and thought...THAT'S  my inspiration point....

It is BECAUSE I am looking for it!!!!!  I am looking for this golden light that says October to me...and while everyone seems bent on looking for ugly orange and black, I am racking up at the thrift stores with all of the amber, golden dishes and crystal I am finding..so there is definitely a silver lining here..

I have enough now, so go look for some..there is golden, amber beauty if you look for it!!!!  It speaks of light and life and beauty......

I propose to you that there is a whole lot more to this month than halloween...A WHOLE LOT MORE!

and now I have expressed my opinion and I feel much better..  I have gotten this off my chest...If you have stayed with me til the end..BRAVO!!  thank you.....and I certainly hope you come back again..and that I don't get booted off of the parties I join this week...if I do, I understand..and I will be all pretty and nice next time..  after all, we are in the home stretch for Thanksgiving now.....I can see November from here....

disclaimer...if you do celebrate halloween, that is your right and I am not in any way saying not to do it...I am really just expressing my opinion and how I see things..that is what makes us all unique..we are our own true self..not a copy of someone else...and it is not my intention to offend anyone at all....

Love, Mona

Historic America and the Confederate Rose

Some people use all kinds of fancy camera filters and such to get dreamy photos...I am enjoying using the sun as my helper to get different effects...After all, it is the source of our light...and can do a splendid job at lighting...ok, I digress..this is about tablescaping....LOL

These creamy white flowers are the Confederate Rose.  you will see what happens to them throughout the day as you read further down...It was given to me by my Grandmother about 25 years ago...I love it and it blooms every October..her birthday month..a remembrance of her...

Always buy monogrammed antique linens..It doesn't matter if they are your initials or not....they are beautiful and have a depth to them that is simply not there in  new ones...

Now the table..and the dishes..... I brought our some of my extensive collection of Johnson Brothers Historic America as the inspiration for this table...and layered it with gold rimmed Haviland plates...on top of Mikasa Italian Countryside plates....
..

Another star for this table is the crystal...Lenox Antique in brown..I had water glasses and when a friend of mine listed these iced tea glasses this summer ..I bought them from her...with this table in mind... I love this pattern...do you say that about crystal??......anyway, I have several colors of Lenox Antique crystal..I picked it out in 1973 when I got married the first time in green and I still love the shape of the glasses...

These little acorns hold place cards but I don't need to use those for me and my husband..grin...
and the chevron fabric was bought to make a quilt but it is too heavy for that so.....a table covering is a much better use for it...

I found these wonky little cups at GW and they are from Starbucks.. still had the stickers....

See that pink flower?  it was creamy white yesterday...  The Confederate Rose blooms white and slowly turns to hot pink the day after...it is supposed to represent the blood of the soldiers......as I started this tablescape, I knew I had to do it all in one day for the flowers to be creamy so I took pictures later in the day and this morning to show you what happens with this beautiful flower...

A few scenes from early evening.actually during the blue hour....do you like to take pictures then?  right before sundown?  It is one of my favorite times to get the camera...see the flowers?  turning hot pink?

This table took on a romantic feel as the sun went down...Those lights in the background line our window and we turn them on every night...I should show y'all all of our whimsy in this room sometime....

Next, it is early morning light today and the flowers are completely dark pink...I love the way this color goes with brown...

This a fascinating flower..Confederate Rose and goes so beautifully with the Historic America china....yep, I am going to change the name of this post from October Morn...to.....something historical...lol

So glad you stopped by today...

and I hope you'll visit these wonderful parties too...
