What came first? my love of flowers or my love of dishes? kinda like the chicken and the egg. I have always loved both for as long as I can remember. I plant my flowers with a thought to how they will look in an arrangement on the dining table. I think about the dishes that I can use with thm too. It's all a part of homemaking. This table setting was so fun to do. It was inspired by some Rosenthal crystal that I just happened to discover while looking for some parfait glasses on ebay. I am in love with their square bases and beautiful crystal. They are Linear Smoke by Rosenthal. I have had these white dishes and this stainless flatware a long time. What if I started blogging regularly again... I often think about writing again.. Maybe I will just try it out and see where it goes.
I do have an awful lot of life that I could share with y'all. After all, my blog vision was to share what goes on in a home that most folks don't see. My Mama used to ask me all the time. For some reason as the temperatures cool and the garden goes to sleep, I turn to photography. I always take so many pictures in the fall. Maybe it's because I have more time. Maybe because of the lull for a moment between the end of summer and the beginning of Thanksgiving. Whatever the reason, I thought I would share some random photos.

It has been so much fun to have all these dahlias to make arrangements with. The red and burgundy ones are just beautiful. I decided to set the table around them and the apple plates by Fransciscan. I've had the fabric a long time and it was just right for the table.

This winter I decided I was going to splurge on dahlia tubers. I was ready when the growers posted their tubers for sale and was determined to get some that always sell out quickly. Well, let me say.. it was so worth it. All the planning, all the digging, all the sweating, and all the waiting.. I keep the blog up and limping along because I still love to share things but just don't have the time to sit in front of a computer anymore. One of my favorite sayings is...

Did y'all see the lunar eclipse Sunday night? We sat outside in the below freezing cold and watched as the moon turned red. The theme of my tree this year was elusive for weeks. I just could not get any inspiration.

Here are some flowers around my garden. The daylilies are blooming beautifully after 18+ straight days of rain. The amount of rainfall has set and broken records. I don't ever remember the kind of downpours we have had day after day. Around our area some of the crops have been damaged from all the wet weather. I have loved herbs since I first discovered them on a trip to Williamsburg in the early 70's. I spent years and years dreaming of just the right way to garden with them. I collected books and diagrams and checked out every book I could find from my library. Then, at some point, I decided to just start growing them. I really wish I had something clever to say. Something profound and life changing. That is not the case lately. The older I get, the less I like to hear myself talk just for the sake of talking.
I like to paint a picture with photography. Meaningful parables caught with a camera. I am a very vision oriented person. I have so much to be thankful for and today I am once again reminded how very much I am loved by my God..
As I look around my decorated home, I am just overwhelmed at how far we've come..
