For as long as we have had this house, I have not been in love with one of my bathrooms...it is the one with a cast iron tub in it so I consider it my bathroom.....long bubble baths are nice in this tub......but that's not the point......
The walls were a beautiful shade of red and I liked the color..I just didn't like the dark little bathroom....so, this was the week...I would tackle a new color and remove all that was in this room and just start over with my decorating...I do have an inspiration piece..it came about by accident several months ago...
I found this metal funeral basket at Goodwill for $2...and the paint colors were all chipped and old and perfect... the silk hydrangeas were already here and they just fit...so, the more I looked at this arrangement, the more I got an idea for the bathroom....FINALLY... grays, silvers, whites, with some golden hues...for accent.......
Here is what I ended up with and I am so pleased with the colors..we buy our paint from a local business that mixes the color we want....not a big box store......this goes back to a little known fact of my life...I used to own a paint and wallpaper store...Dawson Paint Center....I actually went to classes to learn how to mix paint and I enjoyed it a lot...the colors...ah, the colors....I custom mixed colors for a few years and was quite good at it...Color is just my thing...but anyway, I still love to paint...with a brush......I tried a roller on the ceiling but went back to the brush for the walls and doors...I enjoy the brushing on of the paint...and the hand crafted look of the painting... An old painter named Sammy taught me how to load the brush with paint and how to hold it so my hand doesn't get tired....I usually paint something every year for the pure enjoyment of it.....
Here is the finished room........

After using the WRONG color mix for the first 2 coats, we got it right with the last coat.....
.here is the ughhhh....... purple snafaw
and the before
It was a fun project and a huge change in the bathroom..but I am T.I.R.E.D............and need a day off..........
Maybe a nice long soak in a bubble bath is in order....for all of these sore muscles......
it will give me time to dream up my next project...LOL
one more little attribute about an old house..these gorgeous doorknobs..original to the house...maybe now I will remove them and clean them up a bit.......
that's about the only good thing about having 3 doors in a tiny little bathroom...
After I rest a little, I will decide what few things I want to use to decorate this room......being a minimalist is NOT my forte'......to say the least....those that know me understand...
Thank you for stopping by today and I hope to see you again soon....
Mona
Love your bathroom redo. Also love the old doorknobs - we have the same ones in our house :)
ReplyDeleteMona, I like your color combination. Good find on the basket, girl. Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteGreat job Mona! I did not know about the paint store, but I wonder if the older painter's last name started with a "J"?
ReplyDeleteDiane, it was Sammy Brouwner...pronounced Brunner.....he was an older black man and
Deletewas my number one customer...some of Dawson's elite flew him everywhere to paint for them.. :-) gotta love ol' Dawson....
