Not Until AFTER Labor Day

Way down south it is drilled into our tiny little girl heads that we do NOT wear white after Labor Day....   so I don't...My Mama would be proud that I still carry on the tradition..  my, oh my..the things we teach our girls......

So, I waited until AFTER Labor Day to bring out these dishes..  wink, grin......because they look like fall, y'all..

The stemware brings out the gray green in the china....

The dark wood chargers match the stems in the fruit pattern...

My coleus is starting to show off it's fall colors...

I have spent the last month creating this little dining place in our family room...It is so bright and cheery and perfect for the two of us..   I had wanted a round table for a very long time and this wrought iron one fits in just right....  all along it was sitting on our front porch  waiting to come inside and play...  Fall colors blend in with the colors I use in making our house a home so I love it when fall gets here....

Here is a better picture of our little table.....

Now I can sit here and gaze out at our backyard..and dream....
For 10 years we have eaten solely in our dining room that is located in the middle of our house ..It has NO windows.  There are 4 lamps and a chandelier but it's still not bright enough for daytime eating....it is great at night.but this little round table is now my favorite eating spot...and so much easier to get the lighting right for photography...

I hope you have enjoyed my short little tablescape...and that you will come again soon...

Love,
 Mona

Here is where I am linking up this week..come on over and see the beautiful tables and get some inspiration..

  2. PS

Oh I still here my sweet Mom's soft gentle voice about white after Labor Day - in fact just yesterday took all my purse stuff out of my treasured vintage wicker white purse and put it in a floral fall one..............so was just thinking of that rule yesterday. : - )

  3. So little time and so many rules!! I do not know about all areas of the country, but we Southern women were certainly brought up to be ladies! No crossing the legs, above the knee; no chewing gum (easy one for me - I hate the way that looks!); sit in straight back chairs for better posture; and certainly no white, after Labor day!! Love your reminder, about that one. Your Noritake dinnerware is gorgeous and I adore your new eating area. Our breakfast room table has many windows, but the sun is a bit too harsh at dinner! Enjoy, my friend!!

  6. I have white crop pants on today! LOL I saw a woman wearing white jeans with a black top and beautiful studded belt last winter, and I loved that look in the middle of winter. Your Noritake dishes are gorgeous! Have a good week.

  7. Mona, I was raised not to wear white pants or shoes after Labor Day, but I break the rule when it comes to white pants. Well, I don't even own a pair of white shoes. Ha!
Your new dining nook looks cozy and inviting. I'd want to sit and watch the world too. Pretty spot. Your dishes do reflect the feeling of fall. Nice tablescape.

  14. Your table is SO pretty...I love fall and those dishes are perfect. As a northern girl, born and raised by a northern mother, I have JUST put my white purse away for the season. So all those rules were the same here (at least for women MY age!!) Things are more relaxed here now, but things ingrained remain for me.

  15. I have another blog for my family and friends, and I just wrote a post about not wearing white shoes after Labor Day! We ARE so ingrained with these unwritten rules. ;-) Great solution, bringing your porch table inside! Daylight can really lift our spirits. I'm visiting from Tablescape Thursday, and I can feel your heart through your writing. Warms my heart, too.

  17. Mona,
I like your little table near the window. It's a perfect spot to take in all of the Fall beauty that's coming our way. How funny that we still have our traditions that we grew up with like the one you have from way down south. I have heard of this before, and it does make sense to me. Your dishes are lovely and they really look like Autumn.

I am embracing Fall, and I see that you are too.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  18. Guess what? I saw a pair of white pants on the dryer today, washed them, and hung them up in my closet for next year. So funny that your post came at the exact same day that I did this. haha

Those dishes are great for fall tablescapes. Noritake has some really pretty patterns (like the ones in my header).

  22. Mona, Your tablescape is so lovely and a perfect entrance into fall. We were never allowed TO wear white shoes until after the first of May. I am sure that was part of your upbringing as well. I can still, today, hear, "We must be ladylike". I always wondered what mama was doing that wasn't ladylike! That was so hard for me as I was a tomboy and would rather be climbing trees.

  24. I love your tiny little table for two! I did the same thing in one end of our kitchen. It makes great sense when you are empty nesters and it is so intimate somehow. Pretty dishes! And table, too.

I wore white linen and flip-flops today -- my mother probably rolled over in her grave.
