Sanctuary Dining Room

Sanctuary......what does the word really mean to you?

The definition of a sanctuary is a place of refuge or rest, a place where you can feel at peace ......
there are other meanings to this word but this is the focus of these pictures...welcome to my sanctuary....

When we sit down to eat at this table, this is our view......

and to our left..

and to our right....

This time of year I am doing so much gardening and spend every waking hour in my yard..  I thought it was very appropriate that I set our table in the great outdoors...in the early morning light......come and sit a spell..

I used a wooden charger, pewter plates, and a Ballerina bowl.....my beloved Paul Revere stainless flatware that I have been using for 40 years...and I still love it...and the embroidered napkins belonged to my Mama.

When we bought this house, my husband jokingly said...we bought a yard with a house on it.....he was pretty close to right.  I had dreamed and planned for a garden for years and years ..I enjoy every day that I have the privilege to work in this yard..to put my thumbprint on it...to love it back to life after so many years of neglect.  It has been 10 years and now we can enjoy it....never give up on your dreams..it took mine a long time to happen...but it did...and I am forever thankful.....

My husband's favorite coffee mugs are these McCoy ones... so I have paired them with the green juice glasses for a little masculine feel to this table...

Peonies and purple smoke bush for flower arranging...

Come on over to these fun parties and see what's going on in other places...

  2. You have created a thoughtful, magical, serene place outside your home. Indeed...a sanctuary. I am just so happy for you that you are able to take the time to sit out and enjoy the fruits of your years of labor. Anyone who puts that much time, effort and heart into creating an oasis such as this deserves time to relax and revel in it!

I LOVE the Paul Revere flatware. If I could think of another word that is stronger than love that doesn't sound sacrilegious, that's the word I would use! The knife, in particular, but ALL of it looks so cool!!! Living in a Colonial-style house, I like stuff like that that complements the surroundings!!!

    Beautiful setting, Mona! R-e-l-a-x!!!!

  3. goodness! What a spectacular, beautiful place you have lovingly created. The table setting is also carried out to perfection. I used to have a while set off the brown drip dishes! Stupidly, I gave them away. I love the pewter. funny how your email came at the exact moment that I was scouring ebay! the green bowls and glasses are perfect, as they reflect the green surroundings. Mona, I can picture myself at your table! xo Marlis

  5. Mona, when you write about your garden, it always makes me tear-up! I know how much it means to you and how that love has been passed down in your family. Every year, when I spy my first daylily, I always think of your grandmother. Love this post and that gorgeous tablescape you created. Your photography is just getting better and better. Love this one so much!!
