Because of These Mothers

My heritage......Because of this line of Mothers, I am here on this earth.  If it were not for them I would not be......This is my tribute to my ancestors..the women who walked the path before me..the footsteps in which I walk..I am forever humbled and grateful to them and for them......

With my pictures, I almost always have a story to tell....as I set this table, I wanted it to tell the story of the women in my family line......each woman is represented by her teacup that I now have.....
There is a continuity here. a common bond.. I look for this all the time...  the thread that ties everything together....and the common bond here is flowers....We all love flowers.......

The cups on the left represent 4 generations of women.....my great great grandmother, my grandmother, my mama, and me.......

The green floral is mine, the gold one is Mamama's, the dainty floral is my great great grandmother's, and the red floral is Mama's.

The tea set belonged to my Grandmother Lewis ...the details are so beautiful.. I have always loved these dishes.

The older I get, the more I appreciate these women..all that they sacrificed and endured and enjoyed about life......
the good things and the bad....all of the cumulative years have come down to only one woman...me..I am the matriarch of my family..the oldest woman living..and y'all...I am young.. wink, wink...there are 2 more generations of women after me already living....my daughter and granddaughter....

Daily I think of these women...I wish I had had more time with them...had been better prepared for their deaths...that I had appreciated them more while I had them here...and I wish I could tell every woman everywhere just how much she will miss her Mama when she is gone....NO MATTER WHAT!

I like the way all of these floral dishes compliment one another..kinda like the women who owned them...I have a lot of characteristics that came from each one of them...I am similar to the United States of America...a melting pot ..a mixture...each one different ..each one similar... one main thing they ALL have in common...me..I came from all of the mixture in all of their lives..it all came together and I came about.....

We are each distinct.....we all have a different heritage...but we all came from somewhere. We ALL have a Mother.

and today, we need to stop and think about her....what she did to bring us into the world...what she did to get us where we are in life....and realize this...

We would not be where we are if it were not for our Mothers....

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

  1. Oh, Mona! I knew this was going to be wonderful and it is. What a sweet way to honor those mothers who came before you. All the teacups are lovely and you are so fortunate to have them. I love the china that belonged to you Grandmother Lewis - of course, the china would have flowers on the pieces. Happy Mother's Day, my friend!!

  10. Mona, this is wonderful!!! Your words are so moving. I am only lucky enough to have cups from my mother, nothing beyond hers. She was the last of nine children, so everything had been passed to others before she grew up. You are very, very lucky to have these beautiful keepsakes and it sounds like you really appreciate them all! It is so interesting to think of the women who chose all your cups! And to think of the way we all came to be who we are now. Such a beautiful post--thank you for it. Linda

I lose my sweet Mom when she was much too young - and it's been almost 20 years ago now....and not a single day goes by that I don't miss her.

I love your tribute to those special loved ones before you - and with teacups. Love it.
