Learning from the movies..

Last night was date night for us and we went to the movies to see Seven Days in Utopia ..
you know how sometimes you just kinda follow through with something expecting just a good time and some good company and then WHAM!!  something just grips you..something that you were not expecting??

From the opening line of this movie, Someone had my attention!!  Bryan and I were the only people in the theater until a lone man came in and sat in a seat along the side....I mean I kinda thought something was up when we were sitting all by ourselves in this big movie theater and the movie was playing just for us...hmmmmmm..I could hear a big ATTENTION!!  being said to us...grin...well, my attention was had...and I absolutely loved the movie...was the perfect message for us at the perfect time for us...and I can't wait to see it again....here is the trailer and then I am going to tell you about one or two of the phrases that spoke so loudly to me..hope you enjoy this...

Are you playing not to lose or are you playing to WIN?

I was feeling like I was just going through the motions of my life and had even tried to put it into words during supper before the movie....that I didn't know who I was anymore..I had been trying to just not lose in life...I had quit playing to WIN....I have had some relationship issues happen that had made me guarded. some nasty comments have been left on my blog with ugly false accusations....it had rattled me....and I had begun to doubt what I was truly all about...
then I heard Robert Duvall ( I love him anyway) say this---------    the First step is to find some conviction...

he said a lot more about this in the movie but I will stop with that phrase..and the word conviction
con·vic·tion  means      a fixed or firm belief.

I am in process but I know what I have a conviction about...a fixed and firm belief about....I know that I am to be writing this blog...about my convictions...ALL of them..even the ones that other people don't want me to talk about.....I believe that the main thing about homemaking is the WOMAN behind the home...that what is in her heart is what makes the home....all of the experiences--good and bad---make up the life and testimony that I have...who I am as a woman, makes my home the way it is..that is what is hidden..the spirit of the woman....

I was convicted that I was not really living and writing my convictions....I didn't want to offend anyone..but I see now that by hiding behind that 'play nice' mask..I didn't really touch as many hearts as the real me can...so, from now on, I am going to make the effort to be REAL...authentic....and sometimes raw...my life has not been all about pretty things...I wish it had been.   I am thankful for the way life is for me....

The movie was  a good one...

I want to know I am writing from my heart..not writing to keep people from saying hurtful things...

I have come to realize that no matter how hard I try to make some people like me and prefer me, they are NOT!!   so I am resigning from trying to make them....I am letting go of trying so hard....another line in the movie was

FREEDOM is a powerful thing.....

and now I feel free...free to write what is in my heart..and with conviction...

thank you for coming along today....hang on for the ride...I am wondering myself where this will lead....

  1. Oh Mona! This fits in so perfectly with the Winston Churchill quote that was posted by a couple of people on Facebook yesterday - "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." I love this and it makes me want to "stand up" even more. Keep writing - you are making a difference!!
